[mythtv-users] mythtv-setup issue: KWorld USB ATSC TV Stick UB435-Q V3

Back to the original subject of this thread, I'm still not quite sure why
this stick is not present and selectable under mythtv-setup. I've read
more than one testimony to the fact that it works under Linux, and I've
not run across anyone saying they had great difficulty in getting it
operational. The most complex scenario I've thus far encountered was
actually recounted on this list 5 years ago and concerned someone needing
to apply some kernel patches to get it operational
(http://lists.mythtv.org/pipermail/mythtv-users/2010-October/299140.html).
Users of varying Linux flavors seem generally to say that it works for
them pretty much "out of the box."

I don't see any indicators in dmesg output or in /var/log/messages that
there is any firmware needed. Not completely sure what I'd be looking for
there, but I've also searched this tuner's name and the word "firmware"
using google and have found only some Windows files. So that doesn't look
like a promising avenue to me.

Given that I'm trying this on Gentoo, and that this distro is still quite
new to me and requires all kinds of manual interventions that other
distros don't, I'm wondering whether there might not be a permissions
issue in play here. What I mean is that mythtv-setup is running under the
mythtv account, and that account may not have sufficient privileges to
query/probe device nodes: does that make any sense as a possible
explanation? There is, after all a /dev/dvb/adapter0 device node, but
either it's somehow not relevant, or mythtv-setup can't access it.

Any other suggestions about things to try?
