Thanks for your suggestions, Hika. According to 
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/KWorld_UB435-Q_USB_ATSC_TV_Stick
  it "Supports up to 1920x1080i (HDTV)." So definitely HD, but could it do 
SD as well? Not sure.
