Thanks for that information, David. Should come in handy. I'd like to
avoid pulseaudio, but I'm not sure I understand how it got on your system,
even though you didn't emerge it. Any tips on how to stick with just ALSA?
Btw, this machine is to be a combination FE/BE, so I'll have to do some
adapting.
