True, but still available direct from manufacturer. It
is not usual for retailers to stop carrying a product
once everyone sees a newer one (with a +1 version
number on it) and only purchases the new one.
Who still would buy a 2008 Elite Kuro Pro when next
years models came out (Ok, bad example, many
would still buy one).

I agree with everything you say. It is also possible
Hauppauge has ended new production, and only
"old stock" is available, but that was not said (by
Hauppauge, or Eric), so that is why I asked.

I noticed that too, which means I am now likely "tainted"
and might need a mind wipe (and Nimoy is no longer
available) to do future work on a driver (if I even wanted
to do so) since I could not show previous independent
work.

Fortunately there are rumors of previously developed
commercially available (and licensed) drivers (not just
for the HD-PVR2, but many of the newer products),
for which the developers can show prior art and work
product as a base for any future efforts. I am sure
Hauppauge could provide a pointer to the OP (or
anyone else) if they have the $$$$$ to spend for a
commercial driver (and can agree to the terms).
And yes, I suspect (without any knowledge) that
if the OP has to ask what the cost is, and what
the license terms are, they will not be able to come
to a satisfactory arrangement.
