Might try one of the *buntu derivities, probably not something you want to
here but for desktops thats what I tend to run. I know they support the
liva also. Speaking of the liva thats another issue that I have sitting on
my table unused, uggh so many things to do and not enough time. I can take
a peak at openelec and see what they are doing but I was using it with my
liva running openelec when I was using it and it worked OTB without any
issues and they are running a fairly new kernel.
I know you don't want to run openelec but if you install it on a USB
flashdrive just to boot and test the IR receiver, might at least point to
what is causing the issue, maybe it is a bad device but need more testing.
