Since I want to use the blaster features of the iguanaIR dongle I have 
blacklisted the kernel driver anyway. That seems to have worked ok.

As I understand things you can't use mode2 with the iguanaIR daemon. You have to 
use (so I'm told) the supplied test tool, igclient. That appears to do what is 
expected.
