It's probably worth noting that Hauppauge did officially release their
Linux solution. You can download it here:

You're welcome to download it, install it, evaluate its quality, and
see how well it integrates with MythTV. I've got my opinions on how
robust it is (in particular knowing where a bunch of the edge cases
are and having taken a look at the code to see how well it deals with
them), but ultimately users will decide whether it's "good enough" to
meet their needs.

It's entirely possible you are correct. There are lots of different
types of people out there, and for example I'm definitely sure it
wouldn't be attractive to the sorts who spend $1000 building a top of
the line MythTV box but then whine about spending $25 a year for a
subscription to Schedules Direct. :-)

It seems like despite there being "first person" solutions out there,
that they aren't really being adopted. That might be because they
suck, it might be because they aren't integrated well enough with Myth
to be usable by mere mortals, it might be because almost nobody cares
about the use case in question, it could be for other reasons not
stated above. All that said, the "beta" has been available for months
and it's not like somebody went and wrote a bunch of MythTV code to
tie into it, just waiting for it to finally be "officially" released.
