I didn't read it like that.
The major content providers cater to the masses - and the masses, in general, accept whatever they are given UI wise. It has to be **REALLY** bad before a significant number of "average" users would leave the platform. Example, over here "subscription satellite == Sky" - I think the UI is "poor" (being kind) but obviously lots of users are happy to pay through the nose for a locked down box which dictates how they watch.

So regardless of UI quality, the effect on subscribers is likely to be minimal - unless it's "really bad".

The second part of the comment was that if all MythTV users turned round and ditched ${service_under_discussion} because it didn't fit some criteria - then the service provider probably wouldn't notice. We are a minority, and only some of us use a particular service, so a minority of a minority would be buried in the numbers they normally lose & gain each month.

Now, if it's some shenanigans (like the antics of the vertically integrated monopolies (aka Cable Companies) you have for high speed internet service over in the US, then getting everyone to write to their elected representatives might just register above the noise. In general, while they gets lots of letters, they do not generally get a lot about any one subject - unless it's something that takes off and becomes the latest "big thing". So a relatively small number of letters can be noticed.
Whether that notice even comes close to outweighing "lobby donations" is another matter !
