Is the backend really starting a MythLogserver every 30 secs ? Seems reminiscent of the "umpteen instances of mythlogserver dragging my system down" issue.
Check how many mythlogservers are running (should only ever be 1) the next time it happens - use "ps" or "top".
Current recommendation is not to use the logserver I believe. There's a new backend option "--nologserver".
It may not be the root issue but worth excluding it anyway.

Already taken a look at that - running mythlogserver manually, shows i haven't used the correct compiling options (i just went with a default ./configure from fixes/0.27 git). While i do plan to fix that (one for another thread I think), I don't think it's related to the liveTV playback issue as the playback issue is very random. Initial report was about 10 minutes between entering livetv and crashing. The crash with my BE console log was around 1 hour.
Since this issue appears to be experienced by others, is there a bug report somewhere I can monitor/subscribe to? I did notice some reports on livetv on this ML, but they didnt seem to match my symptoms exactly.
