Is the backend really starting a MythLogserver every 30 secs ? Seems  
reminiscent of the "umpteen instances of mythlogserver dragging my system  
down" issue.

Check how many mythlogservers are running (should only ever be 1) the next  
time it happens - use "ps" or "top".

Current recommendation is not to use the logserver I believe. There's a  
new backend option "--nologserver".

It may not be the root issue but worth excluding it anyway.
