Yep, the motherboard has 6 x USB 3 (3 banks of 2 plugs) and 4 x USB 2
controllers (1 bank of 4 plugs), I originally plugged the receiver in
to a USB 2 plug as it was so old, and then tried plugging it in to
each of the 3 USB 3 banks.

FYI, I haven't actually checked the wiring, but according to the Asus
H97I motherboard manual, the front panel connectors are USB 3 -
perhaps they're starting to gain more confidence with USB 3.
