Firesafe, or "media firesafe" ?
There are different types of firesafe - and those designed to preserve paper documents won't necessarily preserve magnetic media. For the latter, keeping the temperature down is critical - so they will be designed to insulate and I'd guess probably have ablative materials to absorb heat energy. For paper, it's sufficient to prevent it charring even if it gets very hot - so they contain fillings that give off moisture (and possibly other stuff) to stop the paper charring but don't necessarily keep the temperature down sufficiently to protect magnetic media/drives.
At least, that's my understanding - so it's essential to get a firesafe that's specifically designed for computer media storage, and to understand it's limitations (they only protect for a certain time, so hope the fire brigade have cooled it off within that time).

It would be unfortunate indeed if you found your firesafe in the wreckage, found the papers OK (or at least still usable) but the disk was "melted".
