[mythtv-users] OT - Hunting a MoBo.....

I was worried about the poor add-in sata controllers on the MB, I was
burned 6+ years ago by the badly done build-in controller.
Because of that I ended up buying a Gigabyte FM2 board ATX board, 8
built in SATA ports provided by the AMD/ATI chipset all appear to be
properly supported, a build in Raedon GPU with DVI/Hdm and VGA, and 2
PCIex8/16 slots with a few more PCIex1 and 2 pci slots, so it covers
all of the bases and would if I needed more than 8 fast drives cover
adding up to 2 high quality PCIex4+ SATA/SAS card. You may be able
to find a mATX FM2 board that has all 8 SATA ports plus enough other
slots to meet your needs.
And the FM2 and AMD cpus are generally low priced.

Research carefully any additional sata controllers on prospective motherboards.

I also had the issue that almost all modern chipsets don't have PCI and I have a lot of PCI DVBS2 cards, the boards that have PCI use bridge chips and they don't work well in Linux, especially when used with tuners. I ended up with a PCI graphics card so I could use the SAS/SATA board, it only runs a console so that's ok.
