Exactly, so it is risky to depend on pkg-config at the moment, until the
authors fix it.

Hmm, I don't think pkg-config is broken on my system only. Gentoo uses
the most current version:

"The current release of pkg-config is version 0.28"

And this version is 1 year old. Who can say, when they will fix it?
