One word: Qt

Well, two words: Qt 4.8

To build current master, you need to build a recent Qt.
And since there are packages in CentOS that have
dependencies on their obsolete Qt, you have to configure
your Qt install for an alternative location (/usr/local is
common), and then you need to build MythTV against
that (and there are other dependencies too).

It can (and has, by some others) be done.  It may
be within one's skill set.  But it is not trivial unless
you build software all day.
