[mythtv-users] Blue screen of death. [1st of 2 questions]

I don't know how to describe my situation other than to borrow the phrase from the Wintel world:
I occasionally get the "Blue Screen of Death".

Truth be told, it's not entirely blue. It's mostly sky blue with some white clouds over three areas of the screen. I hope that makes sense to someone out there, but it's the best description I can provide.

As for WHEN it happens, I have not noticed much of a pattern, other than it seems to happen when the system has been left alone for a while, and one comes back, expecting to be able to either watch TV or recordings, only to find the Blue Screen of Death.

No key our mouse click combination I've been able to think of will get the MythBuntu box out of it's corner and communicate with me. The only thing I've been able to do as a fix is to go downstairs (where the box is at) and turn off, wait and restart the MythBuntu box.

This is not acceptable.
Especially since this is supposed to work for the entire family as a TV substitute.

What do I need to do to fix this?

========================================
Below I've copied and edited the text from my first [September 11, 2013 3:17:17 PM CDT] message that describes my system.
========================================

I've built a Frontend/Backend box with the following:
* Intel DH77KC motherboard,
* Intel i3-3240 C5U (LGA115)
* a pair of KingSton memory sticks: “KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G”
* and a refurbished 1TB HD from one of the big names.

* There is NO separate video card.
* The main video out is via the on-board HDMI connector to a (16:9) HDTV that's one floor up from the box.
* There's also a (4:3) monitor, connected to the "Display Port" connector, that is located next to the box. This monitor's output mirrors most of the the upper left section of the HDMI output.
* The DVI connector is not used at this time.

* the (first) tuner card is the Hauppage HVR-2250.
* the (second) tuner card is the Hauppage HVR-1800.
dmesg | grep -i haup
[ 6.693488] CORE saa7164[0]: subsystem: 0070:8851, board: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 2250 [card=7,autodetected]
[ 6.889861] CORE cx23885[0]: subsystem: 0070:7801, board: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1800 [card=2,autodetected]
...and two more lines.
* The IR sensor/cable for the Hauppage remote HAS been installed.

* The CD used to install the OS is labeled: "MythBuntu-12.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso",
* The current version of Linux appears to be: “3.5.0-23-generic”.
* Another command line entry of: “apt-cache policy mythtv” gave me the results (identical for Installed and Candidate) of: 2:0.25.2+fixes.20120802.46cab93-0ubuntu1

BTW, you may also want to see my separate message, title:
