it should be the same... There used to be a time where VDPAU wasn't
very keen on corrupted media, but things have changed for the better
in the past few years.
Having said that, there are still some corner cases where software
decode will recover more easily.

The nice thing with vpdau is that you can use it for just the
rendering / deinterlacing / denoising etc...
You go into mythfrontend setup , videos , playback and edit the
High-Quality VDPAU playback profile. Change the decoder option to
ffmpeg/software. Keep VDPAU for rendering.
Increase the number of available CPU from 2 to 4....
then you'll have the best of both world: high quality post-video
processing and stability of software decode

you never have enough...
I have a 3GHz i5, and I have some h264 samples where it almost struggle.
