I'm seeing the same thing, it started about 5 days ago...

there's been no changes in myth to explain that behaviour.

I find that quitting myth and restarting it will fix the problem (I
have myth use a different resolution between GUI and playback).

Interestingly, my projector reports 1920x1080; yet myth only uses the
top left quarter of the screen....

not sure what changed in mythbuntu myth packages (if anything changed)
nor which kernel update did that (I use 12.04 LTS with the 3.8 kernel)
