Yes, though current KDE has removed the feature where it took hints from
the DPMS state, so it's unsupported, now, too.
Both KDE and GNOME have taken the Windows-style approach of "let's just
make our own DBus-based API and force every single application in
existence that wants to interact with the screensaver build in support
for using DBus to speak our specific screensaver-control grammar and
drop support for the Unix-like way of interaction". So, since your
screensaver program doesn't care to support a cross-screensaver
approach, I recommend doing 2 things:
1) use xscreensaver, for now, on your MythTV frontend systems (if you
really want a screensaver)
2) somehow figure out how to get freedesktop to accept
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29859 and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26085#c6 and release a new
version of xdg-utils and I'll put back the xdg-utils support with a
version check to ensure users have the working version before we use it
Of course, since the Portland (name of project which includes xdg-utils)
wiki page ( http://portland.freedesktop.org/wiki/ ) was hacked/deleted
back on Oct 22, 2012***, and no one has done anything about it (even
though it was reported on the mailing list on Nov 14, 2012), the project
may be dead. Note, though, that the wiki had been hacked /many/ other
times before that--just far less destructively--so maybe it's only the
wiki part that's dead (though they should really just take down the wiki
if they don't want to support it). Of course, the fact that xdg-utils
1.1.0-rc1 was released on Jan 1, 2011 and there has been no release
since then seems to indicate that the project actually is dead (or in a
/very/ deep coma, at minimum).
