I think the better question is why your trying to archive them... what are
you hoping to achieve.

I personally NEVER move my media off my system.  I either delete it or add
more/larger drives.  I do keep a backup of some important stuff, on a 3TB
external drive using rsync.

If it's just archival purposes, burn a data disk with the files you want...
who cares that it won't play on anything but a computer... it's a backup.
