I'm not sure if "locking" the tuner for external use will actually cause 
MythTV to free up the device node such that it can actually be used 
externally, or just make the scheduler ignore it. That would probably be 
a good feature addition to that mechanism. The alternative is just the 
blanket setting to always release the tuner when not in use.
