I'd venture the issue here is your config.xml (or lack there of) for
the Perl bindings to use.  Check in your user's home directory, you
should hopefully have a ~/.mythtv/config.xml.  Verify the contents are
good.  If it is missing them symlink to a good one, maybe
/etc/mythtv/config.xml.  You can try inspecting the MySQL instance to
see if the recording table is modified as well.
