If you ping from the box, and resolv.conf has your internal domain 
first, and /etc/hosts is set up, then it would not leave the box.
On this desktop, and the laptop 'ping name-of-box' returns pings from 
127.0.0.1, so I don't think the hardware is actually reached and tested.
