No, you're not pressing "the PLAY key", you're pressing the key or
button mapped to the PAUSE action. Therefore, it pauses.

Most people (i.e. those who don't map PLAY on their remotes, but use
PAUSE, instead (as toggle pause)) should use the SELECT action to stop
sticky ffwd/rew (i.e. to select the point at which to resume normal
playback).
Alternatively, the PLAY action (Ctrl+P) will resume normal playback.
Or, if you like, you can disable:
Reverse direction in fast forward/rewind
If enabled, pressing the sticky rewind key in fast forward mode switches
to rewind mode, and vice versa. If disabled, it will decrease the
current speed or switch to play mode if the speed can't be decreased
further.
and then hit FFWDSTICKY or RWNDSTICKY to slow down until you hit normal
playback.
So, if you want the Play button on your remote to be the MythTV PLAY
action, map it as such (using either LIRC mappings or by changing the
key binding for TV Playback/PAUSE to something other than P and then
changing the key binding for TV Playback/PLAY to P. Otherwise, you'll
need to use one of the other approaches.
Mike
