You don't ever /have/ to move any recordings anywhere.  While Nick's 
responses are answering your questions, I don't think they're helping 
you to set up your system the way you want.  While I could go through a 
description of descriptions of configurations to address all the 
possible things I could imagine you may be trying to do, I don't have 
the time to do so, so instead, I'll ask for more information.

Specifically, what are you trying to do?
