Thanks for that, if I look at the  "Video Metadata Settings" page I see no
evidence of a scan, see attached screenshot..

 

This is an RPM install of MythTV 0.25 and the directory in question should
give suitable rights to the scripts:

Is there anywhere this is documented, I can't seem to find it ? I have
looked through the page you suggested.
