[mythtv-users] How to record deinterlaced video? Also, file sizes are huge (rtjpeg)

Hi all,

I've got my new mythtv backend recording video now (yeah!). I've
noticed 2 things different from my old box that died:

1) The video is interlaced. I don't play back with a mythfrontend, I
use VLC instead. However, instead of enabling deinterlacing every
single time I play a video in VLC, I remember on my old system I
changed it so the recordings themselves are deinterlaced on the
backend. All the instructions I've found refer to mythfrontend, which
doesn't seem to help me since I don't use it. How do I set mythtv to
record deinterlaced video?

2) The video files are *huge*! I've always used rtjpeg, but I
remember it being more like 700mb per hour whereas it's now almost
700mb for 17 minutes. Maybe this is due to the interlaced video
making compression less effective. Is there some other thing I've
overlooked that would cause a huge filesize?

Thanks!
