It could also be some combination between the blaster hardware and the
STB.  I've tried 4 different blasters and 2 STBs.  One of the STBs
works with all 4 of the blasters.

The other STB is a lot more picky.  It worked just fine with a
homemade serial blaster and this MCE-compatible dongle
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880121002).  It
didn't work at all with a Pinnacle-branded MCE remote/blaster, and
worked sporadicly with an IguanaWorks blaster.  This all with the same
lircd.conf.
