We don't have anything equivalent over here.

It would all depend on the terms of the contract. I suspect that 
there's nothing anyone can do - reading the article it says the boxes 
haven't been sold for 9 years, so that's well beyond the 6 years you 
normally have to bring an action. Assuming the contract to provide 
the EPG etc is on some variation of a rolling or renewing contract, 
then TiVo can just stop renewing the contract and there's nothing 
anyone can do.

So all you can do is shout loudly to make any prospective new 
customers aware that they are buying a box with a built in grenade - 
and TiVo have hold of the pin.
