Well I'd actually try to profile what happens. Have you tried that? A 
simple and crude approach would be running the frontend over strace and 
then trying to determine if it actually does s.th. during that idle 
period or not. I'd also open another terminal, run "top", and see if 
anyone's busy etc. There must be something horribly wrong in your setup, 
I don't actually believe it's a bug in the the theme.
