Upgrade every two years is a problem?

Was it Ubuntu's 8.04->10.04 that "borked" your database or was it the
very much known and very much talked about 0.21->0.22 myth upgrade that
"borked" your database? i.e. would that have happened no matter what
the distro.

I did a single Ubuntu version upgrade (i.e. not 4 versions from
LTS->LTS) and I still got a hosed database but that was a problem with
myth/mysql and utf-8 or somesuch. Nothing to do with the Linux distro
as I understand it. Although I do admit to not really understanding the
real nature of the problem. I just know it was a real PITA to get dug
out.
