That's why the Sony MiniDisc crashed and burned so miserably.

No one who published content wanted to put their goods on MiniDisc which would have only
helped their competitor(That being Sony Music).

I remember reading how laughable the minidisc was after like 9 years of being available, there were only about 500,000 units sold using the technology.

It died an expected death.
