And also pushed the move to digital TV, they got to sell new stuff to the 
viewers, the broadcasters, the cable companies and just about everyone else. 
All the public got was "better" TV, something they hadn't even expressed a 
desire for, most people were happy with VHS quality.

Correct. Capitalism tends to cause the most "efficient" operation to dominate, 
and we all know who the most "efficient" ruler in the 20th century was. 

Democracy (majority rule) might sound great, but what happens when the 
majority votes to kill the minority? The majority of people are not experts in 
all fields, if they are expert at any of them.

What's best for the shareholders is rarely what's best for the population in 
general. Letting the market rule leads to an "efficient" market, which may not 
be what you want.

Remember the "We Say So" Corporation from the old "Dinosaurs" series? it's 
getting close folks. Orwell would be proud.

It may be more "efficient" to send all American jobs overseas, that doesn't mean 
it's a good idea.
