Thinking a bit more about that, the "kick off the live TV" bit would 
have to be slightly more than that. I believe live TV records in 
chunks already, so I guess the way to do it would be to end the 
current chunk being recorded, and start a new one - that way, a user 
that is timeshifting live TV doesn't suddenly get kicked out and lose 
the recording between their playback point and 'now'.

And then there is the issue of notifying the user - they can still 
carry on watching what they've already got recorded. So how do you 
work the notification that what they are going to be watching in 5, 
10, 20, or however long they've rewound or been paused - their live 
viewing will stop ?

Just goes to show, it quickly starts getting less trivial once you 
consider the various scenarios.
