An alternative to waiting 30 seconds (call me impatient) is unplug, or switch off the power supply, then press and hold the power on button.
This will quickly draw down all the caps, etc.
Many boards have a LED on them, you can see is still lit after unplugging.
Hold the power button until it goes out...
