Drew, you didn't mention which model your Virgin Media STB is.
Early Pace cable boxes on NTL & Telewest have IR remotes which use a
non-standard carrier frequency & protocol similar to (but not
compatible with) IRDA, so will not work with a standard IR blaster.
See http://www.redremote.co.uk for a product to translate RC5 consumer
IR signals to the protocol used by older Pace STBs, or dream up some
excuse for the cable co. to give you a newer box ;-)
