It's kind of a pity.  I actually think that, while there was no perfect 
solution or perfect burial site, Yucca Mountain was about as good as we 
were likely to do.  But the fact is no state wants to be the nation's 
dumping ground for nuclear waste, so it's politically untenable.  And 
the current situation, where it's all accumulating in "temporary" 
storage near population centers and important drinking water sources, is 
an accident waiting to happen.
