Now, this made a difference. The default option in that menu was
detect. Manually selecting progressive made no difference, but
selecting either version of interlaced did so. It didn't look as good
as what I would expect from a 720 or 480p signal, but it did a lot better.
Why, I don't know. I'd almost say that the old programming is being
dumped on the digital side as a 480p program without doing any cleanup,
if that's possible.
Or I may be talking out of me bum, not sure which. :-)
