If you're running linux, you're in luck. This should help get you 
started: remote kommander for mythtv

If you want to extend the application it's very easy using the scripting 
language they have.

I used it on my laptop several times before. Pretty funny, but since my 
laptop is a 6 pound behemoth, it didn't make much sense using it to 
control mythtv from the couch. A mini would be more interesting.
