Joe,

I suggest you start reviewing 
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Configuring_HDTV as it outlines the overall 
options pretty good.
If you are using satellite as source, maybe you can capture in hd directly?
I also suggest that you review the recent archives of this list 
regarding HD-PVR.
Please note that support for the HD-PVR is only _supported_ from version 
0.22 of MythTV, i.e. trunk.
