Someone already beat me to the punch, but if you are in an area like I am,
you won't have a choice but to do HD recording and playback. None of my
local stations broadcast a duplicate stream in SD. So with either tuner
PCIe or HDHR, make sure you have the storage and horsepower if you're
pulling in OTA signals (ATSC), unless your broadcasters are nice and
broadcast a SD subchannel of the stream.
I personally have an HDHomeRun, and the only downside I have not seen
mentioned is the fact they do not have multirec working in the main branch
for mythtv, where as most of the PCIe tuners do. Not a big deal if you only
ever want to record two TV shows at once.
I struggled for quite some time getting HD streams to record and playback
without hickups, in fact its still not perfect. I think that is more of a
playback issue than a recording issue though.
