You will need another USB to serial adapter for the PC.  The good news 
is Linux has support for more USB serial adapters than the DirecTV boxes 
do.  I even just checked and kernel 2.6.24.3 seems to support the bunch 
of cheap $2 Hong Kong adapter I bought with the ch341 chip.
