[mythtv-users] backend disaster

I am running debian lenny with myth installed from
http://www.debian-multimedia.org/

I rebooted after a recent update and found that many GUI apps would no
longer work. Closer examination found that many files in /usr/share are
missing, along with gobs of other files.

The file system isn't corrupt; it looks like package updates deleted the
old files but then didn't install the new files. This seems to have
happened on dozens if not hundreds of packages - too many to fix. I am
migrating everything to the backup server and will reinstall debian
lenny on this server.

The only thing I can think of is some bizarre interaction between
packages from different repositories or something else that broke during
the process, or something to do with the recent release of lenny beta....

Has anyone seen anything like this? I'ts truly bizarre in my book.
