I think the plan is to move to using ffmpeg's fft in MythTV if fftw 
isn't available, so that fftw is not required.  It is an optional 
dependency in MythMusic (in that MythMusic will build even if it's not 
installed) and has only recently started to be used in MythTV.  It's 
also quite likely that a patch to modify MythMusic to use ffmpeg's fft 
libs if fftw isn't available would be appreciated.

As far as MythStream goes, that's one that you'll have to ask the 
MythStream maintainer (as it's not an "official" plugin), but I'm sure 
he'd accept a patch to make it use the same fftw that's used by MythMusic).

However, you should submit your patch in a ticket and it may be accepted 
during the "transition."
