Good to know - I'm not trying the impossible!

Already done that.

I was somewhat unclear - I meant I've tried both versions, not at the same
time :)

I've since made some progress. Using envy I uninstalled the drivers
completely, rebooted, installed the 169 drivers and rebooted. Now xine works
fine and you can really see the difference. However Myth gives:

2008-03-15 11:34:43.149 VideoOutputXv Error: XvMC output requested, but is not
supported by display.
Xlib: extension "XVideo-MotionCompensation" missing on display ":0.0".

idct 1, mpeg2, sub-width 0, sub-height 0, disp, p<= 386, 3550 <=p, port,
surfNum)

Xlib: extension "XVideo-MotionCompensation" missing on display ":0.0".
2008-03-15 11:34:43.150 Trying XvMC port 356

I checked the Xorg.0.log and the XVideo & XVideo-MotionCompensation extensions
are being loaded (and of course xine works as well).

I guess this narrows it down to mythfrontend problems. I currently on
mythbuntu weekly's, I wonder if I should drop back to backports (groan).

Thanks
