I don't think 1366x768 is right. It's probaby smaller than your screen supports - hence the picture doesn't fill the screen.
Nvidia drivers support an auto-select feature for selecting the best fit resolution for any screen attached - you don't necessarily need 'ModeLine' entries in xorg.conf. You could try using the nvidia-settings utility (via the GUI) and see what that gives you. It can write you a new xorg.conf (but back the old one up first) if you run it as root.
