You are correct.  My set is a CRT rear projection.  I believe the faulty
component is the Flyback Transformer.  I found one on partstore.com for
about $50.  I've been reading about some other people with this same set
having this exact same problem, and for all them it seems like replacing
the flyback was the solution.  Unfortunately, it's soldered to a board
and the power line to the tubes is *very* difficult to remove from the
transformer.  If I can figure out how to get that line out, I'll try to
replace the transformer my self.  If I screw it up, I also found an
entire daughter board (with a flyback) on partstore for about $150

I think I'm going to give this a shot.  I may just break down and save
up some money and buy my self a decent (read: 720p) 32" LCD.  I found
some online for sub $500.  That would get me by until I can get another
big mama jamma, and then the LCD will be retired to the bedroom.
