Can you ssh into the box?
It may be that you need this in xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
         Option  "AllowEmptyInput" "False"
EndSection

Do init 3, edit the file and init 5 again.

Only the keyboard and mouse are probably gone. The system still works.
Power buttons are not the answer.

(II) The server relies on HAL to provide the list of input devices.
	If no devices become available, reconfigure HAL or disable AllowEmptyInput.

Did you read it?
