Hi Yan,

If I recall correctly (my test system is down at the moment), when I 
downloaded the patches for ffmpeg and mplayer from the initial announcement 
listed on nvnews.net 
(http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=123091), but end result 
was an mplayer and ffmpeg that was self-contained in a separate directory 
tree from the system installed one.  If you follow the instructions there, 
you should end up with a VDPAU capable mplayer and ffmpeg that won't get all 
up in the grill of your existing ones.
