I have had this problem with the Bionic Woman. I'm also using AC3
passthrough to an Onkyo receiver that works SUPERBLY on movies (I like
to show it off by having people sit in the sweet spot in the middle of
the couch then demonstrate they can close their eyes and point to
Zorro as he walks across the room just from hearing his footsteps).
With Bionic Woman though, the background noise and music in particular
drown out the dialog horribly. The balance is just all wrong. I
chalked it up to them just sucking at mixing it, because a few other
shows really do well, like Heroes and Chuck.
